The University of Ilorin, Kvara, says that it has allocated 5,000 hectares of its land mass of 15,000 hectares for allocation to interested employees and students for commercial agriculture.
Professor Sulyman Abdulkareem, vice-chancellor of the university, published information in Ilorin on Tuesday on the official presentation of subjects purchased at the University University of the Faculty of Agriculture in 1988.
Abdulkarem said that this contribution consisted in contributing to the efforts of the federal government to turn Nigeria into a food basket in sub-Saharan Africa.
He said that the university began the process of access to credit facilities of about N2 billion from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to manage the scheme of farming.
He also explained that at present only 5 per cent of the total land area of 15,000 hectares is used in this institution.
The vice-chancellor said that this initiative will not only put land for productive use, but also raise the country's economy.
He gave confidence that the university would also participate in the federal government ranch program as a way to find a permanent solution for shepherds / farmers clashes in the country.
Abdulkarem praised members of the 1988 kit for the purchase of items worth one million Naira for their faculty and evaluated them for sacrifice.
However, the vice-chancellor, who was represented by the vice-chancellor, Professor Mikhail Bukhari, researchers, technology and innovation, called 1988 the "good ambassadors" of the university.
He said that the institution began to compile the names of its graduates, both at home and abroad, for possible communication and synergy between him and their respective places of work.
He urged members of the faculty set to join the university's main educational institution to jointly promote it.
Dr. Olajumoke Ojo, the president of the kit, who presented the subjects to the dean of the faculty, Professor Gbadebo Olayo, said that the gesture had to contribute to the development of its Alma Mater.
Ojo said that the fund used to purchase items was contributed by all members of the set.
She thanked the university body for its efforts to make the university a dominant role in the education sector in the country.
The items presented are a generator set, three sets of public address system, an incubator, a freezer, a table, executive chairs and a water tester.
Having received the items on behalf of the faculty, Olai thanked the members of 1988 for the gesture and promised that these items would be used reasonably. (NAN)
