Tunisia gathered 1.4 million tonnes of cereals in the 2018 harvest, down from 1.6 million tonnes last year, due to a lack of rain, the agriculture ministry said on Tuesday.
The crop includes 960,000 tonnes of durum wheat, 110,000 tonnes of soft wheat and 310,000 tonnes of barley.
“Tunisian output of cereals during this season reached 14 million quintals (1.4 million tonnes),” it said in a statement.
Tunisia devotes most of its fertile irrigated farmland to durum wheat and imports mainly soft wheat and barley.
Farming represents about 10 percent of Tunisia’s gross domestic product.
