Soil scientists have harped on the necessity to enhance the standard of soil within the nation to realize meals safety and enhance quality of life of Nigerians.
According to them, meals safety may solely be achieved in Nigeria via diligent soil and crop handling methods, stressing that the mission of Nigeria Institute of Soil Science is to enhance on Nigeria’s quality of life via improved agricultural practices.
The Registrar of the institute, Prof. Victor Chude, speaking at a coaching workshop during the weekend in Abuja on ‘Nigeria Soil Resources and Sustainable Management of Soil’ in Nigeria, emphasised the significance of soil preservation as the human race is dependent upon it to live.
He stated: “Proper soil and crop management is essential to addressing issues of environment and land degradation. It is also important in combating the lingering issue of food insecurity, food insecurity can only be tackled through consistent government policies which must address the issues of land availability, accessibility and affordability.”
