The Nigerian Poultry Association (PAN) has denied rumors that the Bukhari administration has appropriated an amount of 2.2 billion kroner to compensate farmers and poultry farmers who have lost their investments due to bird flu.

This was stated by the Director General of PAN, Dr. Anallo Akpa, at the current summit on agriculture organized by the Association of Correspondents of Agriculture of Nigeria (ACAN) in Abuja.

He said that while he was recently in Kaduna to meet with interested parties, he stumbled upon a paper prepared by an authority called “Nigeria Working Again” (GNWA), claiming that the Bukhari administration had been subjected to a bird flu scam of 2 , 2 billion dollars.

“As a representative of farmers, I want to dispel this. Over the past three or four years, we have had outbreaks of bird flu. Once this is confirmed, the government will go to the affected farms, devastate the birds, and then they will pay compensation, and there are procedures for that. ”

“Before this government appeared, there was an outbreak. The latter regime, under the leadership of Dr. Akinwumi Adesine (former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nigeria and currently the President of the African Development Bank) paid compensation in more than $ 500 million. The US is some of the farmers affected by the outbreaks, resulting in more than 80 percent of affected farmers irrevocably. Over the past three years, we have received these shouts from farmers to the government, and at the beginning of this year about 1.825 billion pounds sterling was paid to farmers affected by the outbreak of bird flu, ”said Akpa.
