Oyo State government has said construction work on the Akufo and Eruwa Farm Estates will begin in September.
Dr Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Agribusiness and Director-General of Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency, who disclosed this to The Guardian in Ibadan, said the pre-construction work and Environmental Impact Assessment of the two farm estates had been done.
Dr Akande said about 15 proposals had been received from private companies on the projects, saying some of them had passed through the pre-approval stage by Governor Seyi Makinde and they were being reviewed.
“Within the last couple of months, the first thing we have been able to do is to have the strategy of the agency in place to support the viable growth and development of the state. Beyond that, we have started the implementation of the strategy. We have six programmes now. The Oyo State Agribusiness Policy and Governance Programmes, Oyo State Agribusiness Empowerment Programme, Oyo State Agribusiness Education Development Programme, Oyo State Youth in Agribusiness Programme, Oyo State Regional Agribusiness Developments Programme and Oyo State Agribusiness Rural City Development Programme. We have commenced projects in almost three of them,” he said.
For Oyo State Regional Agribusiness Development Programme, he explained, the pre-construction work that needed has been done, the environmental impact assessment has been conducted and the energy survey of the place has been done.
