Akure- No fewer than 38 persons have been train in broiler processing by Ondo State Government at Isuada Poultry Farms.
The trainees completed the 16-weeks training on Friday last week and were issued certificate of participation by the Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Agric and Agribusiness, Pastor Akin Olotu.
In his address, the agric expert stated that all the participants would be supplied chicks from brooding state to nurture to the stage of calling them off.
He explained that having gone through the practical training, all the participants who completed the training could handle broiler processing without any hitch.
Speaking on the farm, the SSA disclosed that the ongoing construction of poultry pens in the farm would increase the capacity of the farm which has 10 existing poultry pens.
According to him, each of the pens would accommodate 5,000 birds, adding that the programme is part of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration’s scheme to boost agriculture and create job opportunities in the state.
He revealed that there’s plan to install hatchery in the farm for easy accessibility to chicks which farmers travelled to as far as Oyo and Ogun states to buy.
Olotu disclosed that the governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has approved a 40,000 chicks per day hatchery for procurement by the state government.
He explained that hatchable eggs poultry would also be put in place for adequate supply of eggs to the hatchery.
In his analysis, Olotu said people from neighboring states could bring their eggs for hatching rather than travelling to farther states.
All the participants were given financial support by the government with a view to encouraging them.
Olotu disclosed that there’s already established cluster off-takers of all processed broilers by all the newly graduated farms in order not to incur any loss.
