In 2018 Russia can increase milk production by almost 2% to 31.6 million tons

“For seven months of this year, production increased by about 1.3%. While maintaining the current pace until the end of the year, we plan that the total milk collection will be 31 million 630 thousand tons”, said Deputy Director of the Department of food and processing industry of the Ministry of agriculture Vladimir Skvortsov in the business part of the festival “Molochnaya Strana (Dairy country)” on Saturday in Ufa.

In 2017 Russia produced 31.1 million tons of milk.

“If we have the same favorable development of the dairy industry, we believe that by 2020 the collection of milk will be about 32.5 million tons”, he added.

V. Skvortsov noted that “at the moment in Russia a very high-tech dairy industry is being built, which is still in the investment phase”.

“We are building a lot of farms, a lot of processing enterprises. But at the same time, unfortunately, this is the only industry that has not reached the established indicators within the framework of the food security doctrine”, he said.

In accordance with the doctrine of food security, the share of domestic milk on the market should be at least 90%. Last year this figure was at the level of 84.1%.
