The federal government has announced its intention to develop a total of 4,000 hectares of grazing land for servicing at least 3,000 shepherds, said the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, chief Audu Ogbe.

The minister reported this yesterday on the flag of the reconstruction of rural roads in Tambu-Makasauro, the district of local government of Daura, Kacin, adding that this event will start with a pilot of 50 hectares for each state.

"Here, in the state of Kacin, Madaba and Turumi, in Daur, LGA, about 600 hectares were assigned for this purpose, on which holistic land management is practiced and taught. In addition to pastures, which will obviously reduce the friction between farmers and shepherds caused by lost food due to the unsympathetic effect of changing climatic conditions, watering points will be installed.

Proceeding from the desire of the current administration to actively promote the provision of rural infrastructure to improve opportunities in rural areas, he showed that his ministry will rehabilitate at least 22 rural roads, covering about 60 km to seven, through the Program for Support to Adaptation to Climate Change and Support to Agribusiness (CASP) States Parties with support structures.

"A total of 375 km of clay roads will be restored, while a total of 243 km of new roads will be built, and it is expected that it will benefit not less than seven million people in the member states (in the form of Borno, Jigava, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfar, "Ogbe added.

According to him, the ministry through the CASP program intervenes in providing 997 solar energy sources, which will benefit not less than 500,000 vulnerable men and women.

"In addition, water intake, soil and water infrastructure will be provided to improve water collection on agricultural lands of beneficiaries," the minister said.

Earlier, the coordinator of the national CASP program, Alhaji Muhammad Advocaat Aida, reported that the Ministry, in cooperation with IFAD, had developed CASP to promote agriculture as a business and integrate adaptation measures to climate change.

Aida praised the efforts of the Minister for Environmentally Friendly Agriculture to mitigate the effects of climate change by restoring degraded rangeland pastures, pet food items in the participating countries of the program.
