MECHANISATION in rice production is cardinal in boosting yields in the wake of increased demand for the commodity, the Rice Federation of Zambia says.
Association secretary Lubinda Mubuyaeta said in an interview that equipping farmers with better machinery will increase productivity.
Mr Mubuyaeta said with the change in lifestyle, most people have incorporated rice as a staple food and this has created demand for the crop.
“The sector has made good progress in the last five years – we are seeing growth.
“However, we need more assistance to enhance our output through mechanisation because currently, we are still using very old methods of farming.
