Grain Silos: Nigeria faces imminent famine unless Federal Government reconsiders its current lukewarm attitude towards stuffing the grain silos, which are currently empty, MEDIA investigations have revealed.
Further investigations reveal that the current security challenges would be a child’s play if it is worsened with food scarcity, as signs have started manifesting through higher prices of food stuffs.
More worrisome is the fact that government seems not to be in a hurry to embark on strategic grain reserves, as suggestions by some ministers for setting money aside for the purchase of grains was said to be met with stiff opposition by some powerful individuals at the Presidency.
However, the 28 silos that were concessioned to some private individuals and corporate organisations have not been put to use due to fears associated with political uncertainty in the country.
Sunday INDEPENDENT also gathered that while some powerful individuals are against government providing money for the strategic reserves, the concessionieres are said to be skeptical of the current politicking in the country, as the fear of likely change in government might induce policy reversal with the consequent adverse effects on their investments.
