Dr Ajibayo Oyebade, the Coordinator of Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Project, has commended Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba Akoko (AAUA) for its 10,000 cocoa seedling nursery.
Oyebade make the commendation on Wednesday when his team visited the AAUA cocoa nursery.
He said that the visit was to inspect the cocoa nursery and to expand the scope of relationship between the university and the State Cocoa Revolution Project.
“I am so impressed that your seedlings have a torch of university. If I take you to other locations, you will see the differences.
“This means the position of the university management in terms of research and cocoa production in Ondo State is the first key point for establishing the new rehabilitation of plantation of the seedlings.
“We have seen today that AAUA is on course; this cocoa nursery is very encouraging and very impressive.
“This university is in good standing to collaborate with us particularly in the areas of research and educating the farmers,” he said.
Ajibade expressed optimism that the university would use its first batch of seedlings to establish a cocoa farm as promised by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun.
He said the State Cocoa Revolution Project would continue to collaborate with the university to ensure that farmers would make use of the university’s seedlings to re-launch cocoa plantation chain in the Ondo North Senatorial District.
Responding, Ajibefun commended the Ondo State Cocoa Revolution Project for its efforts to make the state to retain its number one status in cocoa production in Nigeria.
He said the university, through its faculty of agriculture, would influence the nation’s economy.
