FIRST BANK AGRIC EXPO: Bank Pledges More Financial Support To Farmers


—As Tomatoes Arrive Lagos by Train after 58 Years

The much anticipated agriculture expo by First Bank of Nigeria plc, tagged; Reinventing Agriculture for Sustainable National Development, took place yesterday, at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

This came on a day history was made in the rail haulage sector as the first tomatoes laden train arrived Lagos state after 58 years, the last time tomatoes were transported by train to South West Nigeria.

The event, which was well attended by major players in the industry who also exhibited their products, as well as would-be farmers, had Chief Audu Ogbe, the Honourable Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Okey Enelamah, Honourable Minister of Trade and Investment and Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group as special guests of honour.

A plenary session, which was followed by master classes, was also held with a panel of discussants that made very intelligent opinions and suggestions on how to revolutionize and reposition the agricultural sector as a major foreign exchange earner.

Purposefully designed to enable businesses in the agricultural sector gain insights on how its innovative solutions will support business development, the Bank also pledged to provide more financial support to farmers and other players in the agriculture sector.
