Farmers in Anambra State have slated September 30 to screen all candidates for governorship polls.
They say they want to identify credible candidates who have genuine programmes in agriculture and the interest of farmers.
The leader of the group, Bishop Eberechri Agbakaizu, who made the disclosure after a meeting of the association at Dunukofia local government area of the state, regretted the manner at which farmers in the country were being neglected.
“We have interest in voting for anybody that will protect farmers’ interest; we want somebody who will have farmers at heart,” he said.
“We won’t pray to have someone who will come in and forget farmers and channel attention to other sectors.
Candidates for all political parties are expected to attend the group’s inauguration to discuss their plans for farming.
“That will enable us to know who amongst them that has exactly the vision we have. Once the person is identified, we now begin to mobilise our members to campaign for the person to win,” said Agbakaizu
