Abaji Chairman Sets Up Peace C’ttee On Farmers, Herders. The chairman of Abaji Area Council, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, yesterday held his first security meeting with the various heads, where he set up a 13-man committee to ensure peace between farmers and herders in the area.
Addressing newsmen shortly after the meeting, he said the committee was set up because of cases of killings at Agyana and Yaba communities of the council recently by unidentified persons.
He said the council was worried over such incidents and decided to act promptly to ensure there is peaceful co-existence and understanding among farmers and herders across the council.
He said the committee would on Wednesday this week visit Gawu community to meet with the Tiv community in the area so that the crisis among their kinsmen would be resolved.
“Another issue that was also discussed was that of drug abuse, which we suspect is fuelling violence,” he said.
