The Director-General for nomadic affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Babayo, said that over the past 14 months, the agency has restored 6,622 cattle.
Babayo disclosed the information in an interview with Nigeria's news agency in Minna on Saturday.
He said that most of the cattle recovered not from the fault of cattle in Niger, saying that curtains usually take advantage of the states bordering the state.
He said: "The main problem that we face is that our borders encroach on pastoralists who are part of our state.
"The applicants of the rustling of cattle, as a rule, come from Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto to claim their cattle."
Babayo said that 80 percent of the cattle recovered from Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto, saying that the type of livestock is different from what they had in Niger.
The Director-General advocated that the states bordering the Niger have an agency for nomadic affairs to help them solve the problems of the storm of cattle.
He said: "If other northern states have this office, I think we will be able to cooperate in order to combat the threat of pastoralists.
"If Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto create a nomadic office, I can assure that the rustle will be drastically reduced and we will have less pressure."
Babayo said that the agency is working around the clock to see that the rustle was brought to a minimum, especially in the month of Ember.
