About 3000 jobs will be created during the much anticipated 3rd edition of the Nutritious Food Fair (NFF), being organised by HarvestPlus in partnership with the Enugu State SME Centre, scheduled to take place in Enugu, from 28th-30th November, 2017, with the theme: Scaling-Up Nutritious Food Choices: Engaging Everyone, Everywhere, where about 15,000 participants are expected to attend.
This was made known to news men, yesterday, in Lagos, during the Breakfast with HarvestPlus, at the Protea Hotel, Ikeja, by Dr. Paul Ilona, Country Manager of HarvestPlus, a member of the CGIAR Research Programme on Agriculture for Nutrition.
Dr. Paul stated that the NFF 2017 will among other objectives facilitate at least 3000 jobs in the nutritious food sector while empowering participants to transition into employment and entrepreneurship opportunities in the fast growing biofortified value chain in Nigeria.
The Country Manager, who also hinted that HarvestPlus was working to address the challenges of hidden hunger among the nation’s populace, stressed that the development of grey matter is key to national development especially during the first 1000 days of every child, stressing the need to develop our intellect to add value to Nigeria’s GDP.
Also speaking at the event was Mr. Fidelis Duker, chairman, organising committee of NFF. Duker, who stated that the event began in 2015 in the northern region of the country, and that the second edition took place in Calabar, expressed much enthusiasm over the growing popularity and acceptability of the event which has been attracting much participation as well as sponsorship and partnerships.
The fair, which is free and open to all categories and groups of people interested in starting up or growing a sustainable agribusiness enterprise using nutritious and vitamin A enriched crops, according to Fidelis, will among other side attractions feature quiz competition among secondary school students with lots of prises to be won.
HarvestPlus improves nutrition and public health by developing and promoting biofortified food crops that are rich in vitamins and minerals, and providing global leadership on biofortification evidence and technology.
